Dental veneers are durable, tooth-colored coverings that are placed on the front surfaces of teeth to correct the appearance of cosmetic defects, including:
Veneers can be applied to a single tooth or to multiple teeth as part of a complete smile makeover designed to improve the overall aesthetics of the teeth and smile.
Veneer applications usually take two visits. During the first visit, a small amount of the surface material of the tooth will need to be removed to make room for the thickness of the veneer so that once it’s applied, it won’t extend above or over the edges of the teeth on either side. An impression will be made of the tooth, and the tint will be selected for the veneer. Finally, a temporary veneer will be placed on the tooth to protect it and the impression will be sent to a dental lab that specializes in dental veneers. At the second visit, the temporary veneer will be removed and the tooth surface will be cleaned. Then the veneer will be applied to the tooth surface using a strong adhesive and gently buffed so it fits perfectly.
With proper care, including regular brushing and flossing and routine trips to the dentist, a dental veneer can last 10 or more years. It’s also important to avoid biting on hard foods or substances like hard candy or ice and to avoid using teeth as prying tools to prevent damaging the veneer (or your natural teeth).
Veneers are considered a cosmetic procedure, and most medical insurance plans do not provide coverage. Our office staff can review your policy to determine out-of-pocket costs and help you find a financing plan when needed to help make the cost of your beautiful smile more affordable.
